Marubeni Citizen-Cincom Introduces the CINCOM L-720, the Fastest and Most Efficient 7-Axis L20 Series Swiss-Type Lathe Ever Developed by Citizen

Allendale, NJ (August 30, 2005) — Marubeni Citizen-Cincom, Inc. is proud to introduce CINCOM L-720, the fastest and most efficient 7-axis L20 series Swiss-type lathe ever developed by Citizen. The new CINCOM L-20 series lathe must be seen to appreciate its speed and tooling flexibility. Its productivity is dramatically increased over that of other conventional lathes. This latest seventh generation L-20 machine from Citizen is far more advanced than the previous L-series lathes.

The new L-20 series lathes are equipped with the newly developed powerful Mitsubishi 700 Control. Full servo axes and advanced technologies enable faster machining operations while reducing non-cutting idle time by 40% compared to that of our earlier L-20 models.

The L-720 incorporates the new Mitsubishi Meldas 700LC control. This built-in control provides a sleek machine appearance. The enhanced mathematical processing capability of the Mitsubishi control combined with the Citizen L-20’s mechanical enhancements offers the quickest and smoothest parts manufacturing available. This is nearly 3 times faster than our earlier conventional machines. Another new control feature is the TFT color LCD screen. This new monitor sharpens the image during a specific machining operation of a part and allows greater operator visibility. The instantaneous start up and shut down of the control is another feature.

Two independent tool posts can move at the same time thus reducing non-cutting idle time. For example, one tool post does not need to return to a home position before the other starts its next task. This allows the second tool post to start the next process overlapping the movement of the first.

In an ID/OD tooling operation or thread cutting operation, moving another axis can start without waiting before the movement of the other axis is complete. This process alone can reduce wasted time and provide optimum operation by 40-50%.

There is also no need to wait for the spindle to decelerate then stop at a zero point before indexing. Spindle indexing can now be achieved instantaneously from a high speed rotation then stop directly at the desired degreed position.

At a rapid 32 meters per minute the main spindle can accelerate and decelerate at speeds and stoppage not achievable with our earlier models. The new Citizen made ball screw is now one inch in diameter with an 8mm pitch which provides this machine’s quickness. This is 1.6 times faster than our earlier model. With the use of small high-performance servo-motors, the L-20 generates minimal heat growth which in turn allows longer high-speed high-precision machining.

The L-720 is offered in 3 models types. When cross machining is required three cross spindles (standard on the type VIII model) can be mounted totaling eighteen tools, five turning, seven rotary, and six drilling tools. The three cross spindles can also be used as end-face drilling spindles by rotating the holder 90 degrees. When end-face machining is required on the front and back an optional 6 live tool holder is available. With this tool holder option the L-720 now totals 21 tools, five turning, ten rotary, and six drilling tools.

The L-720 type VII offers 5 turning and 5 live rotary tools (cross milling/drilling) on the gang plate. When only turning is required the L-720 type V offers 5 turning tools on the gang plate with no live tools. As future live tool needs may be required, the type V model can be upgraded to a type VII or VIII by purchasing additional live tool holders that easily fit into the existing L-720 gang tool plate. This modular concept can support a wide variety of machining processes depending on your current or future parts machining requirements.

Marubeni Citizen-Cincom was founded in 1984 to market and service Citizen’s CINCOM (CItizen Numerically COntrolled Machines) family of Swiss-type turning centers. This venture represents the amalgamation of two of Japan’s largest and most highly regarded companies, Marubeni Corp. and Citizen Watch Company.

Since its inception, MCC has successfully made CINCOM machines the most widely accepted Swiss-type turning centers in the world. These machines are used extensively to manufacture an array of products, including medical instruments, electronics, fiber optics, automobiles, business machines, aerospace, defense, firearms, tools, valves, fasteners, and many others.

In the US, MCC is headquartered in Allendale, NJ, and maintains sales-service offices in both California and Illinois. These three offices are responsible for supporting a nationwide network of 26 distributors located throughout the United States.
